Georgia
Georgian Technical University (GTU) is one of the oldest and largest technical universities in Georgia. It was founded in 1922 as a polytechnic faculty within Tbilisi State University and became an independent technical university in 1928. Since 1990, GTU has been operating as a fully autonomous institution focused on engineering, science, and applied research.
GTU hosts approximately 20,000 undergraduate students and over 3,000 postgraduates. The university has 12 faculties offering a wide range of academic disciplines including Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy, Information Technology, Architecture, Agriculture, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, and Economics.
It is the leading technical university in the South Caucasus, known for its contributions to science, innovation, and applied technology. GTU follows the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and is active in academic mobility programs like Erasmus+. This ensures that degrees earned at GTU are recognized across Europe and beyond.
The university offers programs in Georgian, Russian, and English, making it a strong choice for international students from diverse backgrounds. Some of the engineering programs, such as Biomedical Engineering, are internationally accredited, increasing the global value of GTU degrees.
GTU is located in the center of Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia, on Merab Kostava Street. The main campus is well-connected to public transport, student accommodations, supermarkets, restaurants, and key city attractions.
Tuition fees at GTU are highly affordable compared to other European institutions. Bachelor’s programs start at approximately $3,200 per year, and Master’s programs at around $4,000 per year. The university also has ongoing collaborations with research centers, universities, and industries worldwide.
