The Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), founded in 1930 in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital, stands as one of the most prestigious and largest higher education institutions in the South Caucasus. As the only university in Azerbaijan exclusively dedicated to economics and business education, UNEC has evolved from a small economic institute into a leading academic hub serving over 18,000 students across 14 faculties. It offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs in 57 academic specialties, including economics, management, finance, marketing, international trade, business administration, statistics, and economic information technologies.
UNEC’s curricula are designed to meet American and European standards, fostering partnerships with globally renowned institutions such as the London School of Economics (LSE), the University of Montpellier in France, and Seoul National University in South Korea. The university offers dual-degree programs with institutions like the University of Lincoln in the UK and Middlesex University, allowing students to earn internationally recognized qualifications. Programs are delivered in four languages – Azerbaijani, English, Russian, and Turkish – attracting a diverse student body, including over 850 international students from 12 countries.
Research is a cornerstone of UNEC’s mission, with dedicated centers such as the Digital Economy Research Center and the Innovation and Development Center. The university publishes accredited academic journals and hosts annual international conferences that draw researchers worldwide. UNEC operates specialized laboratories for economic data analysis and financial market modeling, empowering students and faculty to produce high-impact research.
Internationally, UNEC is a member of the European University Association (EUA), the International Association of Universities (IAU), and the Eurasian Universities Association. It holds accreditations from global bodies and ranks among the top 800 universities worldwide according to Webometrics. UNEC participates in student exchange programs like Erasmus+ and Mevlana, enabling students to study at over 100 partner universities in 32 countries.
The university’s facilities include state-of-the-art classrooms, advanced computer labs, and professional training centers. The main campus, located at Khojali Avenue in Baku, features a modern seven-story building equipped with smart energy and communication systems.
